Chrysler adds to minivan a/c warranty

Chrysler has sent out notices to owners of 2006 and 2007 minivans informing them that their rear air conditioner’s evaporator is now warranted for 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first, due to a leak which can occur “under certain limited operating conditions.”

The notice tells customers that repairs already done will be covered if proof of payment is sent to Chrysler. It also notes that if the system fails for other reasons, it will not be covered past the three year / 36,000 mile original warranty.

While automakers often extend the warranty of components known to have a flaw, it is fairly unusual for owners to be proactively notified of the extension.
