Chrysler engines: W.E., V6, Hemi, Cummins continuing

The Pentastar V6 and Hemi engines definitely have a safe future at Chrysler Group, according to the five year plan. The Hemi, in both 5.7 liter and 6.4 liter sizes (around 450 hp for the latter), is in the plan for the future, with MultiAir being added to improve performance and economy; it will drive new transmissions, presumably replacing the Mercedes five-speed automatic in the LX cars.

The Cummins diesel appears to be safe for the future as well, with a chart showing that 9% of engines are currently outsourced, and 9% will be outsourced in 2014 as well. Fiat diesels will be added, starting with the Jeep Wrangler.

The World Engine is set to get MultiAir and direct injection in the short term; its long run survival is unknown but Fiat would be unlikely to develop it if it was to be discontinued in the near future. The World Engine will continue in 2.0 and 2.4 liter versions.

The Pentastar V6 will have both turbocharged and twin-turbo versions, as well as a downsized 3-liter version (as planned). It too will receive MultiAir.

A dual clutch automatic transmission from Fiat will be used in future Chrysler vehicles, and the four-speed Chrysler automatic will be dropped while the six-speed will be enhanced and used more.
