Rumor: Chrysler to show early Lancia, electric Fiat
Automotive News claims that Chrysler will show two new cars or prototypes at the Detroit Auto Show, though no press conference has been scheduled. One is an electric Fiat 500, which could be an existing Fiat prototype, a mockup, or a quick adaptation of Chrysler’s “universal fit” electric motor system. The other is a Lancia Delta hatchback adapted for sale under the Chrysler or Dodge brand; unlike mid-sized cars, the new compacts are to be Fiats or Alfa Romeos adapted to American needs rather than Chrysler-engineered vehicles based on Fiat/Alfa platforms.
Various Fiat 500s are apparently to be shown, including the unfortunately-named 500C, which makes sense as a convertible 500 but trumps Chrysler’s own top end 300C.
