Engineer David R. Hubbs

Former Chrysler employee Dave Hubbs recently died at the age of 87. Dave ran the Special Engineering Group (police car specifications and releases, etc) in Product Planning for many years, at Lynch Road. One of his co-workers wrote, “He did a great job and did it so well that he didn’t need any supervision. We are going to miss Dave.”

David Hubbs was born November 12, 1922 in Knoxville, Tennessee. He received a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Tennessee, and earned subsequent Masters’ degrees from the Chrysler Institute and Wayne State University.

David retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1980, teaching at Lawrence Tech until 1995. David enjoyed volunteering and was named Goodfellow of the Year in 2002.

Another Chrysler employee wrote, “Dave was well respected by the company people as well as the police that he serviced. They always asked about him and respected his ability to handle their requirements and problems. [Partly because of his work,] Chrysler’s vehicles dominated the police car business and won the competitive competitions the police agencies conducted until the late 1980s when we got out of making rear wheel drive vehicles.”
