Ram Heavy Duty is Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year

The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty was the judges’ unanimous choice as Motor Trend’s Truck of the Year. They raved over the ride and capabilities of the big Ram while giving it high marks for its Cummins diesel which meets emissions requirements without the use of the urea-injection system that will be used on the upcoming Ford Super Duty and heavy-duty Silverado and Sierra trucks. For those who don’t want a diesel, the Ram’s base 5.7-liter Hemi has the most horsepower and torque of any V8 offered by the Detroit automakers. To beat it on torque, Ford has to use its V10, which still doesn’t have the Ram’s horsepower.

The judges also liked the fact the upgraded interior materials makes the Ram’s cab best-in-class. Strategically added sound deadening is so effective you have to stand outside the truck to hear the diesel running.

Another selling point was the Ram’s 17,500-pound maximum towing capacity, over a thousand pounds more than the Ford and three thousand more than the GM trucks.

Motor Trend noted the Ram Heavy Duty is a game-changer. It is so good, it’s making the other manufacturers change their plans. Ford is now pulling its big pickup ahead by almost a year.
