GEM sales reach 40,000
Global Electric Motorcars (GEM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Chrysler Group, has set a new record by becoming the first manufacturer of Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) to reach 40,000 sales.
“GEM is a successful example of how Chrysler Group is reducing CO2 emissions while answering customer needs for alternatively powered vehicles,” Steve Bartoli, Head of Regulatory Affairs and Engineering Planning, said. “GEM is directly responsible for cutting CO2 output by more than 93,000 tons by replacing gasoline-powered vehicles with electric vehicles.”
The segment leader in LSVs and Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs), Fargo, North Dakota-based GEM produces six different, 100-percent electric, cars used by local, state and national government agencies, resorts, master-planned communities, universities, medical and corporate campuses, as well as by sports teams, taxi-shuttle services and individual consumers. GEM has been part of Chrysler since 2000.
