GM News: Ed Whitacre to be GM’s new CEO, Saab sold
CNBC and Automotive News are reporting that Ed Whitacre, Chairman of the Board at General Motors, will be named the company’s new permanent CEO. The announcement will be made this morning at 11:30 Eastern Time.
Whitacre, the retired ATT CEO executive who has been running GM since the ouster of Fritz Henderson, replaced Kent Kresa as chairman of the board in June.
Swedish television reports say the Spyker Cars NV, the Dutch manufacturer of ultra-premium sports cars, is set to announce it will acquire Swedish automaker Saab from General Motors. The reports also say the Swedish government has agreed to back loans for the deal. GM, which has been looking for a buyer for Saab for months, denies there is a deal pending and says there has been no change to its plans to wind down Saab’s operations in preparation for liquidation.
