New mid-sized cars, Liberty to be all-Chrysler
In response to a question from Toledo Blade reporter Larry P. Vellequette on how much Chrysler engineering would go into the next generation Liberty and mid-sized C-segment cars (Sebring/Avenger replacements), Sergio Marchionne said:
•The only thing we’re delivering to Chrysler is the basic platform. Everything from that point on, once we deliver it, is up to Chrysler. Having said this, it’s not an inconsequential amount being amount of knowledge that is being transferred… but once we have the architecture in house, then we can start peeling off the nameplates.
The architecture is interesting because it’s capable of doing both the C and D segment… it effectively covers half the American market… so it’s important. Once it gets delivered, it’s mutations through the various nameplates, is totally a Chrysler issue.
It will eventually become the platform which all brands are built, across all three brands.
