Chrysler back to #2 in Canada

Chrysler Canada’s retail sales climbed 20% in January 2009 compared with January 2008, with total sales of 11,940 units pushing Chrysler back to be Canada’s #2 automaker. Canada’s best selling crossover, the Dodge Journey, surged 71% over last January and double the retail sales. Ram sales grew 75% year over year.

Combined sales of the company’s minivans (Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country) captured an all-time high 82% share. The Dodge Grand Caravan, the J.D. Power Most Dependable Van, dominated the segment with total sales of 3,174 units.

For the month of February, Chrysler Canada extended its “You Deserve the Best, Canada” program, which has finance of zero percent up to 36 months or 2.25 percent variable prime rate up to 84 months; and $500 in bonus cash has been slapped down on the minivans and Journey for owners and lessees of competitive vans. Competitive truck owners or lessees can get up to $1,000 towards a new Ram 1500 or Ram Heavy Duty, while all current Chrysler owners can get $1,000 in loyalty rebates for “virtually every new 2009 and 2010 vehicle.”

The 2010 Dodge Caliber CVP starts at $13,995, the lowest price of any five-door compact in Canada. Dodge Grand Caravan CVP starts at $19,999 including air conditioning; seven-passenger seating; third row Stow ’n Go®; power windows and locks; power heated side mirrors; stain-repel seat fabric; and an amazing array of standard safety equipment, including anti-lock brake system (ABS); Electronic Stability Program (ESP); traction control; side-curtain air bags; active headrests and more.

The 2010 Dodge Journey CVP—Canada’s No. 1 selling crossover—is available from $18,499 plus zero percent financing. This vehicle offers a 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC, 173 horsepower four-cylinder engine with variable-valve timing that gets 36 miles per gallon highway; automatic transmission; air conditioning; power windows, locks and mirrors; ABS; ESP; side-curtain air bags and more.
