A better Journey coming: more power, mpg, comfort

The 2011 Dodge Journey is shaping up to be a far better — and somewhat more expensive — car than the 2010 model. The expected Pentastar V6, coupled to the existing six-speed automatic, will be part of the change, with 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque expected (50 hp more than the current, detuned 3.5 liter V6). The interior is also being “completely” replaced, with more comfortable seats, an 8.4 inch video screen for stereo and climate controls, and wheel-mounted audio controls all standard.

Dodge is rating 0-60 times at 8.9 seconds with the FWD version, and 9.1 seconds with the AWD version; gas mileage is reportedly 18 city, 25 highway (sources are fuzzy on this point — whether that rating is for the four cylinder or V6 — we believe it is for the V6). Current V6 mileage is rated at 16/24 (FWD) while the current four is 19/25.

The existing four cylinder, unchanged, appears to be carried forward, but rumors are divided on whether it will be coupled to a four or six speed automatic.

Standard features are to include stability control with traction control, roll mitigation, brake assist, and trailer sway control. A late entry Dodge Journey R/T will include many extras, including performance steering and suspension.
