Chrysler Group LLC announced today that it has selected 130 dealers to represent the Fiat brand in the United States. These group of dealers will be the first to sell the 2012 Fiat 500. The Fiat brand marks its return to the North American market today with the reveal of the 2012 Fiat 500 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.
Franchises were awarded in 39 states. States that do not have a franchise include Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.
California received the most franchises with 17, while Florida and Texas tied for ten apiece. New York, Ohio and Virginia followed with nine, eight and six dealerships, respectively. Arizona, Maryland and Pennsylvania got five each. Dealers in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Washington State were awarded four per state. Dealers in the top ten states took almost 67% of the total franchises awarded.
Nobody matched the seven franchises awarded to AutoNation, but several dealers, including Group 1 Automotive, snagged two. Successful Chrysler dealer Steve Landers picked up three (one was awarded to his son) including the only franchises in Arkansas and Kansas.
