Chrysler the bright spot in Canadian sales
Automotive News says Chrysler was the exception to the rule in Canadian light vehicle sales last month. Industrywide, Canadian September sales were down 0.4% and are up just 1.4% this year, compared to the U.S. where year-to-date are 10.4% ahead of the first nine months of 2010.
While Chrysler Canada enjoyed its 22nd consecutive month of sales growth, Canadian sales for Ford, General Motors, Honda and Toyota all fell last month.
Chrysler Canada’s sales of 19,255 cars and light trucks beat GM of Canada’s total of 16,799. GM said its sales were down 6.1% in September. GM is now just 7,798 sales ahead of Chrysler in YTD results. Chrysler already leads GM in truck sales by a healthy margin.
Ford remained the best-seller but saw its sales drop three percent to 25,656. Car sales increased 14.4 percent to 5,667 but truck sales took a seven percent hit, dropping to 19,989.
Toyota Canada was down 5.2% to 13,808 last month; Honda plunged 19% to 11,109 sales and Nissan dropped 17% to a total of 7,098 vehicles.
