SRT High Performance Tour hits Houston

Chrysler’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) Brand has been on the road since August with the “SRT High Performance Tour.” The tour, featuring four drivers and four SRT vehicles, the 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8®, Dodge Challenger SRT8, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8, has been visiting clubs and stopping at events in a number of states on its way to the SEMA show in Las Vegas November 1-4.

Allpar caught up with the tour when it stopped at Allen Samuels Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram in Katy, Texas, just west of Houston. The host club for the event was Space City LX, a Southeast Texas group for owners of Chrysler 300s and Dodge Challengers, Chargers and Magnums.

There was a good turnout of both people and cars for a mid-week evening event. In addition to the SRT tour vehicles, a good number of Space City LX members brought their own cars to show and it was great to see how the cars had been personalized.

The dealership had cleared its front sales lot so it could be turned into a mini test track for test drives in the Chrysler 300 SRT8, the Charger SRT8 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8: the Challenger was on display, showing off its 392 HEMI engine.

The test drives consisted of a burn-out start, followed all too quickly by a quick stop and a small slalom course. There was a line of eager test drivers waiting their turn for the entire evening.

The dealership provided hot dogs and cold drinks. The weather was perfect: clear sky and mild temperatures, a welcome change from the heat wave that seemed like it would never end. And you couldn’t beat the sounds of roaring HEMI engines.

The tour headed to San Antonio for the TORC Series. They are arrived today and will be there through Sunday. Next stop is the SRT Track Experience at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona on October 21, followed by a quick trip down to Tucson for an event with the Tucson Mopar Club on October 22. The last weekend of the Tour will be spent in the greater Los Angeles area. On Friday, October 28, the Tour stops at Bob’s Big Boy in Burbank, California. Saturday, the 29th is extra busy, starting with Cars & Coffee in Irvine then up the 101 to Santa Barbara for the Mille Miglia.

As for the Folks of Space City LX, they’re getting ready for tomorrow’s Mopar Fest at Lonestar Motor Sports.
