Dart to exceed 40 mpg?
According to Automotive News’ new ace reporter, Larry Vellequette, Sergio Marchionne implied that the Dodge Dart will be certified this month at over 40 mpg, without benefit of the nine-speed automatic which might end up under the hood in calendar year 2013. This transmission could, according to ZF, raise gas mileage by an extra 10% or more, versus the already-efficient dual clutch automatic.
The statement came as part of a more general announcement that, with the certification of the car, Fiat SpA would receive the final 5% of Chrysler that was part of the original deal made between Fiat and the U.S. government, bringing its ownership to 58.5%. The rest is held by the UAW’s VEBA, a trust formed before the bankruptcy to provide for the health coverage of retirees.
