Kubang to get new Maserati engine

There has been some speculation regarding the engine which will power the Grand Cherokee-based Maserati Kubang, especially given the recent launch of the Pentastar V6 with a once-and-maybe-still-planned Pentastar V8. Maserati releases have said that it would be a Maserati engine, but there was still the possibility it would be based on an existing Ferrari or Chrysler powerplant. Allpar spoke with a Maserati representative after the Kubang concept was unveiled to North America (following its actual unveiling in Europe), who said that the engine was a ground-up Maserati invention by Paolo Martinelli, based on Formula One racing experience. The engine will be made by Ferrari and shipped to the U.S. for installation into new Kubangs, which are to be made at the Jefferson Avenue plant.
