oil-stuff

Allpar was told some time ago that when the 3.2 liter V6 was launched, it would become the mainstream engine, with the 3.6 being relegated to special duty. That transition will, it seems, take place over a longer period of time than we had anticipated.

The only vehicle slated to get the 3.2 liter V6 in model-year 2014, according to an internal advisory, is the Jeep Cherokee.  The 3.6 liter engine will remain on Rams, large cars, minivans, mid-sized cars, Jeeps, and Durango.

Three 2014 cars will get the 3.0 liter V6, all export versions (the 3.0 was developed primarily to avoid high displacement taxes): the 300C/Thema, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler/Wrangler Unlimited.

As we noted some time ago, the 2014 V6 engines have a redesigned oil filter cap and O-ring, which is not interchangeable with the 2013-model-year engines. The part number for 2013 and earlier filter-and-O-ring kits for V6 engines is 68079744AB; for the 2014 model year, 68191349AA. The kits are not interchangeable — the 2013 kit cannot be used on the 2014 V6, and the 2014 kit cannot be used on the 2013 V6. (thanks, Danno)
