David Friedman, deputy director of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, sent a two-page letter to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne expressing concerns about the Chrysler Group’s current efforts to repair 2002-2007 Jeep Libertys and 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokees …

Did Fiat hire some fired GM execs and put them in the recall department?

In these days manufactures are going to be forced in to recalls that make no sense. Even the GM ignition recall is for dumb people who put 5 pounds of keys on their key chain and let the weight hang off the steering column. They could just give keys with no holes to put on a key chain. How far are manufactures going to have to protect product from stupid people? I see car cost going up to pay for this lawyer driven foolishness.

Unfortunately, the courts/juries seem to side with stupid people.

It's not always the "dumb people's" fault. If you've not paid attention - there was indeed an issue with a certain ignition switch part. People at GM lost their jobs over this.

I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue. It's under a recall related to the ignition key moving out of RUN and the engine shutting off, thus the steering and air bags won't work correctly. In this case, the fix is not to replace the ignition switch or key cylinder. The fix is for me to remove my remote key fob - which is the ONLY thing attached to the key - glue in a piece of plastic that makes the hole for a key ring smaller, attach a 16mm ring to the key, attach another 16mm ring to the first, and that's it. I should NOT put the key fob back on the keyring. I should keep it detached and separate. That's pretty useful, right?

Back to the topic at hand - Chrysler can make their best effort to notify the consumers about this recall - but if the consumers opt to NOT FOLLOW THROUGH, there isn't too much Chrysler can do.

Perhaps they would prefer to deny consumers registration or renewal of their vehicle/plates/drivers license if the consumer doesn't get the recall work done.
