Chrysler Group announced today that it will resume volume production of vehicles in seven of its North American assembly plants on the week of June 29, 2009. As part of a phased production ramp-up, the following assembly plants are scheduled to resume production at the end of the month:

The Windsor Star reported that the minivan plant could be open within two weeks, with Brampton opening later, to refresh the stock of minivans in Canada. Several sources are coming together to suggest that an electric or hybrid-electric sedan similar to the Chrysler 200C concept will be built at the Brampton plant in calendar year 2011. The vehicle would have a range extender to bring it up to 200 miles.
While nothing definite is known, several sources have converged on this rumor.

The Brampton, Ontario, assembly plant will be idled next week, joining the the Belvidere, Sterling Heights and Conner Avenue facilities previously announced. The Brampton plant builds the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300.
A Chrysler spokesman blamed the shutdown on the economy and said other closures are possible.
