Bryan Nesbitt, the designer of the Chrysler PT Cruiser and the knock-off Chevy HHR, will be named as the new head of Cadillac later today. He will assume his new duties August first.

Bob Corker, a Republican Senator from Tennessee which is home to a growing number of automotive facilities, echoed a statement made by a number of pundits and analysts about Chrysler. In hearings on Capitol Hill, Senator Corker said: “There’s no future for the company as a stand-alone.”

Cerberus is looking at a variety of strategies for Chrysler, according to a source close to the discussions. The person did not provide specifics on any of the alternatives to the widely reported merger talks with General Motors, simply stating there were “numerous” options.

JeepNewsNow reported that an Illinois woman was excited to discover she had purchased (used) Senator Barack Obama’s 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Their story also noted that, when asked, John McCain did not know what kind of car he owned or drove; but it turned out to be a Cadillac CTS.
