Chrysler has followed GM by making a deal with the Michigan Credit Union League which makes low-cost loans available to Chrysler buyers, in return for additional discounts for members of participating credit unions. Some time ago, a dealer offering “two for the price of one” made national news, with some outlets scoffing at the apparent worthlessness of Chrysler vehicles. A new Automotive News article, however, shows that the discounts are not nearly as deep as one would expect.

General Motors, having sold a controlling interesting in GMAC to Cerberus, has now lined up a group of midwestern credit unions who are willing to make $10 billion in low cost financing available to their 12 million members, for buying General Motors vehicles. Chrysler Canada today announced sales of 15,560 for the month of November, down somewhat from November 2007 (18,445), with calendar year-to-date sales of 210,702 compared to 213,729 in the same period last year.

As predicted, October’s U.S. light vehicle sales weren’t pretty. Chrysler Canada today announced sales of 15,731 for October, an increase of 2% over October 2007 and consistent with sales through the first nine months of the year.
Reid Bigland, President and CEO of Chrysler Canada, pointed out that October “marked the 25th month of sales growth over the last 27 months.”

Chrysler announced that its October 2008 sales in the United States were 94,530 units, a 35% drop from October 2007. By comparison, GM sales dropped 45%, Toyota 23%, and Ford 32%.
