Jordie pointed out that Dodge’s “body builder” documentation now includes a CNG (compressed natural gas) Hemi, available on Ram 2500 pickups. While none of Detroit’s Big Three are new to CNG, having made it available to fleets numerous times in the past, this may be a first for the Hemi. The engine, coded EZF, is [...]

Sources within Chrysler say that Ram will be preparing a truck for police use, including powertrain changes to make the standard Rams better suited to emergency vehicle duty. While no information is available, it is likely that the engine and transmission cooling would be beefed up, extra wiring added for various add-ons (particularly special lighting), [...]

In an almost bizarre report, Chrysler filed a recall notice with the NHTSA which noted that an estimated 1% of Ram diesels in model years 2010 and 2011 could have a power steering cap which fails to relieve pressure properly. The result can be brake lights that are slow to go out, which could increase [...]

Last night, Ram engineers chatted with owners at the Dodge-owned site Ramzone.com. They were not able to discuss much in the way of upcoming technologies or features, deflecting questions about eight-speed automatics, direct injection, 392 Hemis, etc. Two key notes for the 2012 model year were released: SAE standards for trailer towing requirements will be [...]

Allpar was recently told that the five-liter V8 Cummins diesel engine is currently being made. It is a quiet, high-rpm engine, redlining at over 5,000 rpm, and appears to be no noisier than a typical gasoline engine. Yet, it should achieve gas mileage “in the mid-20s” in half-ton trucks. The initial rollout will be for [...]
