The first 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups are on their way to dealers. Production began last week in Saltillo, Mexico and the trucks should be on dealer lots within three weeks.

The Texas Auto Writers Association named the Heavy-Duty Ram Pickup the “Heavy Duty Pickup Truck of Texas” at their annual truck Rodeo. At the event, held outside of San Antonio this year, the Dodge Dakota was selected “Mid-Size Pickup of Texas” and the Jeep Patriot earned the “Compact SUV of Texas” title.

Dallas, Texas’ Richards Group will handle advertising for the Dodge Ram starting in the fourth quarter, and GlobalHue will handle Jeep advertising, according to Automotive News, which broke the story. BBDO Detroit is currently running spots on the Chrysler 300, but may not keep the 300 account after the current review is completed.

Bloomberg reported that the Warren truck plant which builds the Dodge Ram and the Toledo plant that makes the Jeep Wrangler have scheduled overtime to meet the demand.

Dow Jones reports that Chrysler is boosting production as the government’s “Cash for Clunkers” program continues to pump demand, reducing the number of vehicles available at dealers.

It appears the days are numbered for California’s last automotive production facility. Sources with knowledge of the situation say the Japanese automaker will most likely wind down its share of the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. plant it once shared with General Motors, ending the employment of the only UAW workers building Toyota products.
