On June 1, 2010, Chrysler’s Berlin-based German sales unit was taken over by Fiat’s Frankfurt-based organization. The employees affected by the change are being offered new contracts but will have to relocate. General Motors has announced cutbacks at Opel, which a German union official, apparently unaware of Daimler’s history in the United States, declared to be a “declaration of war,” according to the Associated Press.
