General Motors announced better than expected U.S. sales for April 2009, with an overall drop of 34% compared with April 2008. By losing less, GM has gained market share against Toyota, but lost ground to Ford.

Chrysler February sales, while still down sharply, were more than sufficient to beat Honda for the No. 4 rank among the major automakers. They also beat industry analyst estimates by a significant margin. American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted total February vehicle sales of 71,575, down 35.4 percent compared to February 2008, based on the daily selling rate*. Influential research firm J.D. Powers has released a study showing that Dodge could regain fifth place among preferred automotive brands as U.S. light vehicle sales improve in 2010. January sales won’t be reported until next Tuesday, but Jesse Toprak, Executive Director of Industry Analysis for Edmunds.com, has already made his predictions.
