Chrysler has bought the interests of Hyundai and Mitsubishi Motors and is now the sole owner of the GEMA four-cylinder engine plant in Dundee Michigan, allowing Chrysler to replace the much-criticized 1.8, 2.0, and 2.4 liter “World Engines” with advanced designs from Fiat.

Nissan Motor Company has announced it will be reviewing its vehicle supply agreement with Chrysler LLC. The announcement comes a day after the American automaker filed for bankruptcy protection and finalized an alliance agreement with Fiat SpA.

Mitsubishi has, according to Automotive News, announced five weeks of additional downtime at its factory in Normal, Illinois. The factory, which builds the closely related Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, Galant, and Endeavor, was once a part of the Diamond-Star joint venture with Chrysler. Numerous automakers have been slowing or stopping production at plants across the world.

Struggling Japanese automaker Mitsubishi will not renew its contract with Chrysler for the Raider pickup, a re-badged Dodge Dakota. The Japanese automaker is ending the deal with Chrysler as part of its overhaul of its North American product line after seeing its U.S. sales tumble 24.6 percent last year.
