The National Automobile Dealers Association says as many as 40 Chrysler dealerships may be threatened with foreclosure because of the ongoing dispute between GMAC and Chrysler financial.

Facing possible legislation restoring the franchises of 789 dealers cut by Chrysler during its brief stay in bankruptcy, the automaker has agreed to stop offering the terminated dealers’ former territories to new dealers. The National Automobile Dealers Association and a group of dealers, called the Committee to Restore Dealer Rights, whose franchises were terminated by Chrysler and General Motors have reached an agreement on recommended reinstatement procedures.
