Chrysler has announced it will add shift at the Belvidere, Illinois Assembly Plant to make an additional 10,000 Dodge Calibers this year. Production of the Jeep Compass and Patriot will not be increased.

It appears the days are numbered for California’s last automotive production facility. Sources with knowledge of the situation say the Japanese automaker will most likely wind down its share of the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. plant it once shared with General Motors, ending the employment of the only UAW workers building Toyota products.

Thousands of workers will return to their jobs after having been idled since April 30. Chrysler Group is restarting seven assembly plants along with powertrain and support facilities.

Fiat Group Automobiles has announced it will end automotive production at its Termini Imerese plant near Palermo, Sicily, in 2011. The plant, which employs 1,400 workers, currently produces the Lancia Ypsilon minicar.
