Audi kicked off the reporting, saying it had its third-best October ever with strong performances by the A5 and Q5. Sales trailed last October by just 1.1 percent. On the year, Audi sales for the first ten months of 2009 are just 8.7% behind 2008. Parent company Volkswagen came in with a 7.2% improvement.

The Dodge Journey was the best-selling crossover vehicle in Mexico last month as Chrysler’s market share rose to an 18-month high, beating Ford for the month. Chrysler captured 11.8 percent of sales compared to Ford’s 11.4 percent. It’s the first time in 15 months that Chrysler has come out ahead.

The hangover from the “Cash for Clunkers” program was especially painful at General Motors and Chrysler. GM sales plunged 45 percent, while Chrysler’s fell 42 percent. Chrysler Group increased market share compared with August 2009, but fell 42% compared with September 2008.
The JeepĀ® Wrangler continued its strong sales trend in September with 6,002 units sold, a 7 percent increase compared with August 2009. Wrangler continues to be tops in market share in the compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) segment.

With the addition of Chrysler, Fiat S.p.A. will reach its goal of selling 5.5 million to 6 million vehicles, according to CEO Sergio Marchionne.
Marchionne considers 6 million cars a year critical for an automaker’s survival. Fiat and Chrysler currently have total sales of up to 4.2 million units.

With total sales of 6,637 units in August, Chrysler de Mexico reported its best sales results of the past six months and achieved a market share of 11 percent.
Despite low inventory levels on a number of popular nameplates, compared with July 2009, the majority of Chrysler Group vehicles posted major sales improvements.
