President Obama will be visiting one of Chrysler’s Toledo plants (one makes the Wrangler, the other makes the Liberty and, if still in production, the Nitro) next Friday to acknowledge repayment of the TARP loans. More sources have confirmed that Chrysler will indeed be adding new capacity to build their own camshafts for the Pentastar V6 at one of the Trenton Engine plants, within the next year. With a Mexican supplier’s inability to produce as many parts as promised shutting down Trenton Engine for a week, possibly resulting in a shutdown at Windsor and ordering restrictions on V6 Chargers, Chrysler has rushed underused equipment southwards. The second Pentastar plant, in Saltillo, Mexico, is up and running, according to internal sources. The end of an era has arrived, with both 3.3 and 4.0 liter V6 production at Trenton Engine officially over, and the assembly lines are shut down.
