Why The Daytona?
I mean it’s just a car, right? In my case it’s not even a turbo. What makes us like our cars so much?
In addition to being transportation, what makes one car or another one that we ‘fall in love’ with? In my earlier days I was devastated by someone and I put all my emotions and effort into a car. I know it may sound weird but….
It was a ‘62 Chrysler 300. It was primo when I was done with it and I couldn’t even think of parting with it for years and years.
Now in the case of the ‘Daytona’ things are different. Yes it’s a car that I really like and really don’t want anything to happen to it. In fact I just spent a great deal of time doing a bit of a restore. It’s 20 years old now and while it still runs great and gets great mileage it is 20 years old and things are wearing. In my case it was the paint.
What make someone want to spend hours and hours as well as nearly twice the value of the car trying to bring it back to new condition? I mean it’s just a car, right? Why bother?
What makes us care so much for an object like our car? What is it about the car or is it something within us that make us care so much?]]>
