Stacking up cars like cordwood

Normally, I think Peter DeLorenzo’s ego is far beyond his actual blog quality; but this time, he’s hit the nail on the head. Required reading, I’d say.

As a Lifelong Mopar Fan i felt like i was reading a Comedy Dramma and eating 100% of it, cuz he is 100% right about the cars stacking up in the Chrysler Sales Bank, Marketing is one of the greatest issues, but the other is the worst publicity any brand of any product could have….LOUSY post sale service…in wichi the Asian Brands are the BEST plain and simple, if DCX does not fix that problem RIGHT NOW the sales never no matter how hot their products arewill beregained

At this stage I have to agree as well. The inventory problem is old news, but it’s the same old news…meaning little seems to have been done to rectify it and, indeed, it may be getting worse. Dealers and Corporate have long had a fairly dysfunctional relationship, and even that seems to be taking a beating.

We can only hope that the new vehicles are not lost in the middle of this, and that they’re not the latest in a long line of “if only they’d marketed the damn things” epitaphs. If they ‘man up’ and make the needed personnel and culture changes, this is a situation that can be rectified in relatively short order - as compared with inefficient production processes, for example.

They’d have to finally give up on the idea that they can only sell cars using sexual innuendo and German engineering references. I wonder if they’ll tout the Sebring at all, given its lack of Special German Content (R).

Please excuse my current pessimism. I can’t get over the fact that they’re sending over MORE MERCEDES PEOPLE to do MORE COST CUTTING while Toyota and Honda and Hyundai are opening new plants.

Honestly, you may not like what he has to say sometimes, and yes, he might appear to be behind some of the things that happen here or elsewhere. However, he has been spot on about DCX and the lack or whatever is going on at CG with the correct information on who is directly responsible. His comment about how to fix it, is the only sensible alternative that there is. The sales bank was reprehensible in the ’70s. It is a prime source of just what is wrong with DCX.

If the things happening now continue on the same course, the only thing to do is to committ to turning Chrysler into a real independent entity and COMPLETELY revamp, revise, reinvent, and reinvest in it. Daimler go away.

I think he hit the nail right on the head. This over building of vehicles is suicidal. I have a feeling the 2005’s he was referring to are Crossfires. I heard a few months ago that there were still plenty just sitting around in the ports. When Chrysler first approached us about taking extra units in December, I advised against it. However I was over ruled by my brother and he not only took those but everytime they have asked he has taken some more. Now as a result we have double the amount of stock we need. Most of it is bad stock. And now our floorplan interest is crushing us.

Daimler is the fault of everything that’s wrong with Chrysler. I worked at Twinsburg for 40 years( retired in 04) and when Daimler took us over from the ” low life” Bob Eaton, every thing went down hill. They stole out money and when things got rough, then they belamed Chrysler. Daimler has the worse advertizing of any car manufacture. We have the best cars on the road, they have the least recalls of any others and yet we get the worse rap for reliability, why? What is Daimler trying to do with us? The Benz cars have the poorest record of most cars, yet we seem to be taking all the hits.
Most of all, the only ones that see this are the employees at a lower level. The reason for that is, we are loyal Chrysler people and those up stairs are transplants from other companies and go where the $$$ are and could care less about what goes out the door. Hell, they are exec’s and everything is handed to them. Those that can least afford to buy the cars are the ones that are feeding the SOB’s and we have to suffer with their bad judgements.
Look what Bob Lutz did after he quit, he went to GM and used his ” car ideas ” with Pontiac and is successful with his program. I’m starting to bable, so I guess I’ve said my piece. Goodnight and thank you for reading gripe.

As I opined over on the main Allpar forums…………….what is going on with the CG sales bank is merely the ‘Canary in the Coal Mine’—————-what is going to happen is ‘opaque’ to me.

this is exactly what I have been ranting about since the take over. and all I hear from most on the Mopar sites is what a trator I am. My first Mopar was a 70 vs coded Duster in 1970 as a teen still in high school and I have been loyal ever since, except now!!!My wife wanted a two seat roadster and the ugly under powered crossfire (from m.b.) was NOT an option. with the styling that most Americans are after and knowing the design was approved by Lutz, we purchased a Pont. Solstice for her. my very first non Mopar purchase in my life. I thought I would have a problem with turncoating but I am getting over it and then I think about the crap the germans are doing to my old car co. and resentment sets in. Until some drastic management/ownership changes at Chrysler group happen,I will be keeping my purchases in American owned car companies. even if the quality is sub-standard to Mopar!!!!!

Perception. The lack of a quality ad campaign (Nitro falling?..with intro sales perhaps) that catches
the public with style and flair. Use the promo’s they pump at training events…if it’s good enough
to get a seasoned saleperson motivated what could it do for John Q. Public?

Quality! Push, promote and push it again. Get the message of quality out there.
Change perception…change reality…they are the same!

Building the product has kept the plant moving. It shifted the burden/expense of lackluster
sales and marketing to the dealer. At the dealer level, we cannot afford the burden they placed
on us. We have not the capitol nor the ability to withstand a market they failed to plan for…or
in turn failed to create a desire in the consumer for our product.

At some point the pain will go back to Chrysler…at the expense of the dealer first…and 12 months
later it will hit full circle.

    Failure to Plan…Plan to Fail.

  11. Ex-MoPar Fan

    hatedaimler,

You are not alone. I was also a long time Chrysler fan, but after Daimler came into the picture I left. I pretty much figured Daimler would take over after 1998 and the sh** would hit the fan in Auburn Hills. Really, I have yet to see the benefit from Daimler. I still get upset about the way Daimler is pounding Chrysler into the ground, but there is not much I can do except sit off to the side and watch the decline of a once proud American car company.

Don’t worry about being labeled a turncoat or traitor either. I thought I would have a problem with it, but now I don’t really care any more. I bought a 2003 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in 2002 and really haven’t looked back. I also must include that this is the first brand new non-MoPar in the family. We had been selling, servicing, and repairing MoPars since my grandfather opened his own dealership in 1955, but all that loyalty was thrown out the window by Robert Eaton and this “merger of equals” crap.

BTW, I like your screen name. I should have used something similiar. Oh well.

I have been is automotive retail for 20 years, The last six and half at a great Daimler Chrysler Dealership, I have found that most our bread and butter products are not drawing much attention. The really nice cars we sell people around us cannot afford. We have watched a lot of standard content go away on
on our cars, trucks, utilities, minivans. I see new lower priced products come to market with the worst ads,and no lease support that makes sense. RE: Compass Lease is higher than Liberty and even Grand Cherokee, Nitro is higher than Durango and Thunder Road Ram 1500 4wd! People feel our resale is low but it is definately not when you consider a new $33,000 Durango has $6000 consumer/lease cash, $1000. red dot cash, $1000 cfc bonus cash, $1000 lease loyalty and the list goes on! Would you think $23,000is a deal? Daimler needs to lower the sticker price and rebates so people can understand what they are paying. Daimler Chrysler needs to align its pricing and simplify its packages.
If that happened people may have a better understanding of what they are spending. Rebates are not the answer! LOWER PRICES ARE! BRING OUT A 72 MONTH 100K MILE WARRANTY ! PROVE THAT BUYING A NEW CHRYSLER DODGE OR JEEP IS THE RIGHT CHOICE!

  13. Brad

I think doing away with the 7/70 Powertrain Warranty was a mistake. I thought a few years ago that Chrysler should offer a longer basic warranty period but now I see there is no way they could afford that. The warranty claims cost would kill them.
