Just a quick link…
I couldn’t resist posting this:

It’s a pretty interesting page, and it takes a historical perspective I haven’t often seen outside of Allpar.

i dont think that they knew what they were talking about. the kept refering to DaimlerChrysler. but a Plymouth resurection is possiable, but unlikley.
they need to cut the dealers that refuse to do warrnty work. and only make the best of the best 5star. Dont give the 5star away. And they need to put the Pentastar on the fenders like they did in the mid 90’s. that would help them alot for brand image. make the base minivan a Grand Voyager with the 3.3 and the 62te. The Dodge has a standard 3.8 w/ optional 4.0. Chrysler has standard 4.0 with all the bells and whisltes. Only offer leather on the Chrysler. and put DVD in both the dodge and chrysler. and make the Sebring a Plymouth Satallite. The Convertable would stay a Chrysler Sebring. and offer a base LX and LY car with no options and the base engine… the 3.5L. and Make the Compass a Plymouth. It was never a “real” Jeep anyway. All it had was AWD and a 7slot grille. it wasnt boxy like a Jeep either.
Plymouth needs to fight Chevy/Honda/Toyota.
Dodge needs to fight Pontiac/BMW/Acura/Lexus (sportiness not luxo)
Chrysler needs to fight Cadilliac/Mercedes/BMW/Lincoln/Volvo (in LUXO!)
and resurect Imperial to fight Maybach! that would really piss of Daimler!
Well, I agree with the blogger in that they went too far with Dodge. On the one hand they did give it a distinct identity, but on the other a great many car buyers don’t seem to be looking for that. They have made Dodge more of a niche brand. Jeep obviously is a niche brand. Image-wise the Chrysler brand is a bit of a mess.
What’s missing is the ‘everyday bread and butter’ brand. Y’know, like Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys.
The other cogent point is that Plymouth wasn’t pulled out from under dealerships but was slowly whittled away until there was nothing left. As far as what dealers replaced them with, my local one bought the Jeep part of a Ford/Jeep dealer down the road.
