Coming soon: Jeep Rubicon
We drove the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited some time ago, but it was an automatic… and that just seemed wrong. Now that we have the stick-shift version, we know what we were missing. It makes a huge difference in the feel and character of the car; it makes it much more hard-core.
When we first got it, we had a nice shoveled out driveway and a curb cutout that had been blocked by the snowplows clearing streets after the big snowstorm. Hard-packed snow and ice, in a mound around three feet high; and around 18 inches of snow on the ground behind it. We backed the minivan up to make room, then took the Rubicon and created our own path. A snowplow would have been helpful, but just going into 4×4 mode and backing up worked surprisingly well.

I apologize for the low quality of the photos. The first one shows the Jeep having gone into the unplowed “driveway” (there’s a curb cutout but it’s just grass); the second shows how deep the snow was. We didn’t shovel … though afterwards we did have to clear the sidewalk.
