How shall we do Carlisle?

Since we started coming to Carlisle, we’ve followed this basic format:

1 – Gather together on Friday; some talks, mostly hangin’
2 – Carlisle Big Day. Walk around, vote on cars to get trophies, have group lunch, hand out trophies
3 – Sunday: ghost town

This year, it has been proposed that we change the format, for several reasons. The “trophy walk” takes at least an hour, sometimes two; people get tired and hot and we can never find all the cars. This brings up the first question:

POLL NUMBER ONE: HOW CARS ARE JUDGED

OPTION A – Friday night, gather together at a restaurant with a big parking lot; do the big group trophy walk then (trophies are still awarded on Saturday)

OPTION B – Saturday, a smaller group of pre-selected judges do the trophy walk and assign points to each car in a certain number of categories

OPTION C – The usual

OPTION D – No judging

Now, we have poll number two. This is in regard to trophies. We have, in the past, had trophies for roughly one third of the participants. Some have asked whether this is the ideal — small trophies for a lot of people or fewer, bigger trophies for a small number of people.

POLL NUMBER TWO: TROPHIES

OPTION A – Everyone gets a dash plaque; three to five “big” trophies are awarded

OPTION B – Everyone gets a dash plaque; no trophies but winners are listed at Allpar

OPTION C – We keep doing what we’ve been doing

OPTION D – No trophies OR dash plaques; winners listed at Allpar

Finally, there’s the question of how to set up trophy categories:

POLL NUMBER THREE: CATEGORIES

OPTION A – Continue to differentiate by era and type of car

OPTION B – First (and maybe 2nd and 3rd) place for key criteria (e.g. restoration quality, body, engine bay, mods)
