Allpar and browser support
Through Tapatalk, we now support easier mobile access to the forums. Soon, we will also have a special mobile skin that works with phones that Tapatalk doesn’t work with – like Windows Mobile.
Allpar has always tried to support all major browsers, and most of the minors; we stayed Lynx-friendly long past the point where Lynx had greater than a 1% market share. At this point, we are seeing 59% of visitors using Internet Explorer, a low point that, five years ago, would have been unthinkable. Firefox has 23%, Safari has 9%, Chrome has an amazing 6% (given how little time it’s been out), and Opera has 1%. But what about mobile devices visiting the rest of allpar?
That’s a puzzle we need to keep working on. The news pages have special skins; the regular pages don’t. We need to figure it out and get it going.
Also — we need to optimize the menus again… but that’s a story for another day.

Dave, the beta Tapatalk client for Blackberry (OS 4.6) seems to work pretty well
Sounds good. Just so you know, the mobile skin should work without Tapatalk…
The Blackberry browser is terrible, and gives an HTTP 400 error before it’s finished loading.
That’s a shame. It’s gotta be an IPB issue because we have not played with it.
it is IPB, it’s by no means specific to the Allpar forums. Supposedly RIM is replacing it with a Webkit-based browser when the next OS release comes, but who knows if it’ll be released for the 8900? In any case, Tapatalk is a good alternative.
Glad there’s an alternative. Glad we added support for it! Webkit sounds good. Funny to have Apple leading the way in browsers, who’d a-thunk it?
