At the 2008 All-Chrysler Nationals, first place winner in the Pro-Street Class — All Years was this 1967 Barracuda powered by a 426 Hemi engine with heat-treated block and cast-iron heads. The owner is Dave Brown of Edgewater, MD.
The supercharger is a 8.71 BDS Air Loc Rotor model producing 7.5: 1 compression. The car runs on pump gas with its owner claiming best mileage of about 9 mpg! It has a trunk-mounted chrome fuel cell holding the fuel in safety.
Dave said he was stopped only once on the trip to Carlisle for the All-Chrysler Nationals, and he was sent on his way by a trooper with a friendly warning after a brief check for legal specs.
Dave, a professional welder, has owned the car for about 10 years. When he bought it, the car needed a lot of work, which he did himself with help from friends. Besides replacing floor pan and several body panels, and other exterior repairs, they converted the A-body to Pro Street with the addition of tube chassis components. The Hemi was rebuilt and modified by Mancini Machine, Inc., of Baltimore, and the 727 TorqueFlite transmission was also updated. Prepping and paint and the interior makeover went to other shops. The color is Chrysler’s Inferno Red. Restoration of the muscular 'Cuda took five years; it is not raced, but it is a frequent show winner.
