No, the new radios do not allow you to import music to a hard drive inside the radio. Instead an SD slot has been added for music stored on an SD card. This was probably a good choice given the cost of rugged hard drives.

Also have USB . You can get 32G USB flash drive for under 20buckshttps://www.walmart.com/ip/SanDisk-CZ60-32GB-USB-Flash-Drive-Black-Red/23350716?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227017267274&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=40333392272&wl4=pla-78294711512&wl5=9007369&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=23350716&wl13=&veh=sem .....32g's is more than enough for most music libraries.

The problem I had with the thumb-drives is the placement of the USB port. Right in the center of the arm-rest storage area. Blocking any ability to actually use it for storage & not damage the drive and/or stick.

Granted, I'm not sure if it's in the same spot in a 300, as it was in my Dart; but that was a [bleep]y spot to put it.. like it was literally an afterthought of "well [bleep] we don't have a spot for that now.. uhh.. just put it in there. Nobody uses that storage spot right?"

Edit: did a bit of googling, and it sorta looks too shallow to use a full-sized thumb-stick with. A dongle (Pic), sure, but not a thumbstick, especially if you have said thumbstick on a keychain.

They make very small profile USB drives now, so you can plug them in without losing space or worrying about dropping something on it and cracking it in half... I paint the sticking-out part bright yellow so I can find it. Very, very little intrusion.

    No hard-drives anymore.

Uconnect 430 Screens (currently in Wrangler and Grand Caravan) have the hard-drive. When the new Wrangler hits, only the Grand Caravan will have the 430 screen until Pacifica replaces it entirely.

Android Auto/Apple Car Play and Bluetooth Audio Streaming will completely replace the need for hard-drive.

    No.

The newer 8.4" radios do not have a user accessible hard drive for importing media.

yeah; that'd be what I call a dongle, but now they call it a compact usb drive; apparently they use dongle as a term for bluetooth related things now.

Because the USB stick protrudes, that is why I use the SD slot.

I have a 32GB flash drive... I have it about half full of .mp3s (which currently is 3,000+ .mp3 files) in my Charger.

To add to others' comments, the 8.4 Uconnect doesn't even have a CD player.

With SD cards and bluetooth streaming, HDD's are useless.

The 2011-2014 Dodge Chargers do... I can even play DVDs on mine. Here is Inglorious Bastards playing on my UConnect screen.

You can see on the picture below well over 3,000 .mp3s and they play great off the flash drive.

My 14 JGC SRT doesn't have one. Did my 2012 300 SRT have one? I certainly don't remember having one.

Flash drive/SD cards are the way to go for sure.

    2014-Chrysler-300-SRT-cockpit.jpg

2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8 certainly did, directly under the climate controls there was the SD and CD/DVD slots.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT models had an option for a center console CD/DVD player.

I know you know, but of course the 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT has a SD and USB ports for UConnect as well..

The console-installed disc drive remains an option on Grand Cherokee, I believe.

Can I transfer all my songs from my 8 tracks????? :)
Damn, I must be old to remember them... Although I never bought an 8 track tape, I remember my father installing one in his truck...

That's where the DVD player is for the rear seat entertainment system when ordered on Durango. I don't know if Grand Cherokee offers that.

I think CD-drives were optional. The ability to play DVD or video files up front, I think was something aftermarket.

Ahhh if you've got the rear seat entertainment package. I hardly ever see Jeeps with that option, so I didn't even think about it.

Yeah, they do. I occasionally see one.

If it's like our Pacifica, the DVD will play on the front screen and the rear screens when in park. If you don't have the entertainment package, yes, there are aftermarket options to play video files on the 8.4" screen.
