2018 Michigan State Police test Results:

    ----------

The V6 and AWD Pursuit models did very well this year. The RWD V8 performed as well as the '15-'17 models. The soon-to-be-discontinued Taurus was only a tad quicker in lap times, and you might see where Ford is finally improving its brakes. I'd like to see Dodge continue to improve the BR9 brake package.

For 2019, odds are getting increasingly better that we'll see a Pursuit-Rated Durango wiping the test track with the Tahoe and Explorer. The Durango SSV currently bids out very close to the Exploder, but anyone comparing bids will immediately notice all of the expensive options that Ford offers, much of which is standard equipment on a Dodge. How are fleet administrators justifying the far more expensive Ford's?

    Politics.

In other news, I don't believe Fleet will bother trying to get the Dodge Ram a Pursuit rating to compete with Ford. With a top speed of only 100 mph, the Ford F150 "Interceptor" is more a marketing gimmick than a genuine Pursuit vehicle. Amusingly, Chevy has not shown any interest in adding its pickups into any kind of Pursuit vehicle status, either.

I'm surprised that the Explorer's selling as well as it is with different agencies since it has a LOT of complaints between being fragile as well as exhaust fumes getting into the interior.

It would be very interesting to compare Dodge vs Ford sales numbers, but FCA Fleet doesn't provide that info. Inventories of Charger Pursuit models on dealership lots (that normally stock them) have largely dried up, however, which indicates demand has surpassed supply.
