The 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland will have an added bonus: optional skid plates, no longer be restricted to the Trailhawk, off-road king of the Cherokees.

The Trailhawk Elite provides off-roaders with more gizmos and gadgets, including a hands-free power liftgate, memory mirrors and radio (so two drivers can each have their settings automatically applied), heated steering wheel and front seats, ventilated front seats, garage door opener, remote starter, alarm, and electric wiper de-icer — a feature whose helpfulness on icy mornings is hard to understate.

Reliable source oh2o told us that LED headlamps will be standard on all 2019 Cherokees; and blind spot/rear cross path detection will be optional across the board. (Blind spot detection warns of cars in one’s blind spot, optionally sounding an alert if the driver uses turn signals; rear cross path detection uses rear bumper sensors to detect crossing traffic, e.g. when backing out of a parking space — useful when vision is obstructed by a large SUV).

Reportedly, the 2019 Cherokee will have more cargo capacity, and there are new wheels; the Overland will get 19-inch wheel options. There are also new interior finishes, and the Overland’s front tow hooks will be chromed.

The changes should give Jeep Cherokee sales a shot in the arm, especially when coupled with the exterior refinishing.

I hope chrome wheels will be available. Not just all black. Yes I'm 'old school'.

Overland probably will have chrome. If not, there's always aftermarket.

Current Cherokee only has black wheels as standard on the Altitude models, and as an option on Trailhawk. Limited/Overland has chrome IIRC.

I'm curious as to how there is more cargo capacity since this is just a refresh?

They do this typically by by reshaping seats and interior panels.

    Reshaped rear hatch also.

The "increase" will probably be minimal given the constraints of a refresh.

I’d be OK with polished aluminum surfaces or even sparkle silver paint. I hate black and dark gray wheels. And the brass look ones on Dodge look like cheap spray paint.

It's looking like for my next new car, I'll have to do something about the wheels. If I were ready to buy today, the car and trim level I'm interested in comes only with black wheels. I don't mind the wheel design, just the color. So how feasible is it to get the wheels redone in silver? Would it involve stripping the black finish and then powder coating? Would that be less expensive than getting them chromed? And would the new finish be as durable as from the factory? Or should I just plan to buy all new wheels?

That is where I am at too.
When I had black wheels on the Wrangler, there were so many cheap used wheels I had no problem.

On my Durango R/T, I’m not having luck finding 20” take offs from a Durango or Grand Cherokee at a reasonable price. I’m thinking paint or powder coat. I just hate the thought it may not hold up. I don’t care for aftermarket wheels. And then, I might as well replace the crap eco-rated tires for some tires that work in rain and snow. That’s gonna cost a lot just because the factory chooses crap tires and has poor wheel selection.

Plastidip....cheap, holds up well, available in just as many colors as powder/paint and easy to apply and remove. Plus its not permanent so it can help with resale down the road.

So long as you apply it right. There's a lot of people out there that don't do their research & it ends up looking like [bleep].

No different than making V6 Dodges look like SRTs.
