Always wait for refresh, this is true for almost every consumer good.
My Dad has a 2004 5.7 and it has been a great & reliable engine. Now the exhaust bolts have been bad for so long it whistles on start up but my does not care, it runs well and keeps going.
A co-worker has a 2012 Ram with like 40,000 babied miles and his studs let go. His mechanic replaced them with stainless ones. He said you won't be back again for this. Had both manifolds checked warpage and were milled for trueness.
I firmly believe having the manifolds machined goes a long way to not having to replace the studs anymore.
