The Alfa Romeo SUV will be shown during the Frankfurt Motor Show (17 - 27 September) a lot of news articles say.

Here is a rendering from, 21 year old Remco Meulendijk who is from Holland, that looks really smart:

An SUV wearing the scudetto?

IMO, an SUV doesn't belong in the lineup of a brand such as Alfa Romeo (or Maserati, for that matter). But I suppose the market makes it a necessary evil. I think the long-awaited replacement for the 166 would have been a better choice for the second vehicle in the revived Alfa lineup.

Then call it a sportwagon instead of an SUV - conflict solved.

Doesn't help if the vehicle still is an SUV...

    The rendering's, imo, awful.

Am betting the real one won't be anything as un-sensuous/sinewy in its 'skinning' especially from the rear, and rear-of-the-c-pillar, which is one of the remarkable, singular design traits of the Giulia. Alongwith a more 'swell'-type V-on-the-bonnet, rather than the sharp V on most artist-renderings of both the Giulia and, surely, the other new Alfas-to-come? And bigger, though perhaps just as shapely, headlamps?

Frankfurt will be exciting for FCA in Europe/EMEA. Will the Fiat Aegea sedan, and hatch, and SW, be shown/launched there too? Also, for word on the 2litre turbopetrol? (Mild) hybrids?

  9. Too bad this isn't the new Pacifica. They would've made that 6 billion back a whole lot sooner.

BMW X5 M, Porsche Cayenne, and pretty soon Maserati, Bentley, and Lamborghini will have SUV's, with Aston Martin being a possibility. Plenty of traditional performance car companies with SUV's.

If by that you mean the surging profits that basically saved the brand, than yes, yes he does.

Cayenne and Macan sales are half of Porsche's sales in NA in 2014.

    But is it?

Are the BMW X6 and the Honda Crosstour considered "SUVs"?

    Perception, marketing, reality.

I've always considered the Honda Crosstour more of a pregnant Accord.

It was, but I also heard that now it has been overtook by the 963 coupè-spider.

What he did was to save the company at the expense of the brand. To wit: "Cayenne and Macan sales are half of Porsche's sales in NA in 2014."

That remains to be seen, but if the vehicle in question resembles the X6 or the Crosstour, it would still represent the kind of automotive obesity that doesn't belong in a lineup of a brand of agile and sporty cars such as Alfa Romeo. Better leave that to other brands, IMO. (Just a pity the market disagrees, that's all.)
