I got an email today, for the LA-Autoshow, and the FCA media events that'll be there, via LiveStream. Looks like Chrysler is doing one & Fiat is doing one.

Yup. There's no new Chrysler vehicles on the product schedule so I'd guess the 200S which they said was production intent, maybe.

You have a single vehicle or nameplate, the Chrysler 300. The Chrysler 300 has various models. Take 2007 for instance:

    2007 Chrysler 300
    2007 Chrysler 300 Touring
    2007 Chrysler 300 Limited
    2007 Chrysler 300 C
    2007 Chrysler 300 SRT8

Each model can have optional trim levels. A trim level changes the standard equipment. For instance, in 2009 there was a Challenger R/T and you could change the trim by selecting the 27J option which gives leather interior and access to options not available in the standard trim.

This is the way I always understood it to be.

That makes sense to me. I do not know what the factory uses, but in sales, 300C was just a trim level, as was R/T. The SRTs were different models.

Look at what I posted above for the Chrysler 300.

The Challenger R/T is a model and there are different trims under R/T. Even the VIN has the specific model represented by the sixth digit. In the case of the R/T, the sixth digit is a 5.

    L-platform
    C-model
    49-segment or "architecture"
    x-engine (numerical)
    x-trim (numerical)

    IIRC

Those comprise the build in the vehicle VIN. NOT the order codes.

Its a little more complicated than as there are engineering models and marketing models. Let's take the Ram 1500 for example.

    Engineering:
    • ST
    • SLT
    • Sport
    • Laramie
    • Laramie Longhorn
    Marketing:
    • Tradesman/Express (ST)
    • SLT (SLT)
    • Big Horn/Lone Star (SLT)
    • Outdoorsman (SLT)
    • Sport (Sport)
    • Laramie (Laramie)
    • Laramie Longhorn (Laramie Longhorn)
    • Laramie Longhorn Limited (Laramie Longhorn)
Multiply all of the above by the different drive, cab, and box combinations and there is your nightmare. Its a disconnect between the "Engineering Systems" and the "Marketing Systems" and their respective departments. Don't get me started on the Fiat 500 disconnect.

    Yep. Aint EVER straightforward.

....and people wonder why they cannot have "just this option" without "all this other crap".

It looks like it understeers a bit.

Otherwise, nope - can't get anything else out of the video.

It looks fun though! Nice, high-speed corners. I assume that's at the proving grounds?

    300 road course testing..lol

Should name a commercial as such, but be cruisng around, picking up friends, going to dinner - "ouch its cold" so - heated wheel and seats, drilling pot holes in comfort - like a, you know, real 300 actually DOES.

This whole handling stuff needs to be reeled in, these cars aren't meant for euro roads that are the size of our sidewalks and its time to start making fun of THEM for having roads so small.

2015 Superbowl commercial epicness I am thinking

Is it really a 2015? Mirrors maybe look different. Looks like they have a turn signal on them? Like the lense sticks out a little.

huh, only thing I notice is.. no engine noise. For a car being pushed a little, I'd expect to hear at least some grunt from the exhaust.
But then again, the other sounds are kind of consuming.

Let's just hope Fiat isn't thinking of turning "C" into it's own brand ala SRT... lol

No - the 300 is busy being a sort of premium offering with a brand that is mainstream. Nothing confusing there.
