Canadians Get Ram 1500 Spring Special,

Canadian buyers now have a Spring Special to push V6-powered trucks. Many buyers have bypassed these fuel-efficient options, whose 305 horsepower engines put the old 4.7 V8 (230 horsepower, later boosted to 290) to shame. Ram pairs the V6 with the eight-speed only, which puts its cost well over that of the Hemi V8-six-speed combination.

The Spring Special is the Ram 1500 Crew Cab Outdoorsman Special, with the V6, 10-way power driver’s seat, 60/40 split folding rear seat with fold-flat load floor, AC outlet, bed light, and upgraded center console. Outside, it has 20-inch glassy black aluminum wheels, with a spray-in bed-liner, rear camera, and parking assistance; inside, an 8.4 inch stereo, remote start, security group, seven-inch trip computer, garage door opener, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Ram is throwing in $1,340 of options, in the form of the comfort group (AGF) and remote start/security group (AJB).

For those who prefer a diesel, the same basic package is available with the diesel V6 engine.

Hemi buyers don’t get a spring special, but they can get a Ram 1500 Sport “Buzz Model,” a crew cab 4×4 with a short box in Stinger Yellow paint, with a special hood, black badging, yellow seat inserts, heated front seats and steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic temperature control. The package costs $1,995. Thanks, Ram Man.

I thought they canned that old "6" speed? I had one in my old Ram. The 8 speed absolutely transformed that truck into a MONSTER. I haven't driven a V6 8 speed, but I couldn't imagine getting anything other than the 8 speed auto in that truck, regardless of engine choice. People are spending $30-40k on these trucks and I see no reason to settle for a 6 speed Hemi just to save a few dollars.

I was looking at a Outdoorsman with the V6, but then got notice I was losing my job after 36 years. Would have been my first brand new vehicle.
