Ever heard ol' DW talk about walking around a short track after a Nascar Cup race and see all the ball bearings lying just to the inside of the track pavement? Trap doors just outside of the frame rails allowed the ball bearings to exit during the race and a car could shed 50 - 100 lbs during the race. In those days, Nascar weighed the cars before they lined up for the race but not after the race ended.

Mopars ruled in ARCA back in the mid - late 60s. Most of these cars were originally out of the Nichels' shop.

I believe this article is from NSSN.

With the passing of Ray Fox last week, I thought it would be fitting to post this photo of his 1969 Daytona ARCA winning Dodge driven by Jim Vandiver heading for victory circle after the race.

Iggy got lots of press coverage for Dodge back in the 60s with all his ARCA wins.

I believe this is an old NSSN article.

Here is an old photo of Andy Hampton in the 1968 ARCA Daytona race. Hampton in the #2 Dodge led a 1- 4 Dodge sweep. Jesse Baird finished 2nd, Iggy Katona finished 3rd and Chuck McWilliams finished 4th.

Photo (shared from Photobucket) of Ramo Stott's 1970 ARCA Daytona race winning Plymouth Superbird.

Here is a page on that ARCA Daytona race from "Racing Pictorial" magazine showing Stott's margin of victory over Bobby Watson's winged Dodge Daytona. The lower picture shows how close they were running down the back straight on the last lap.

And here, friends, is, as they say, the rest of the story (and it's a familiar one to Mopar racing fans). The two winged Mopars were so dominant at Daytona that ARCA officials decided that for the upcoming ARCA Talladega race, they would have to take off their aero packages or run smaller displacement motors than their competitors. Article is from the "Gadsen Times".

In spite of Mr Marcum's efforts to handicap the Mopars, Ramo Stott proceeded to win the ARCA Talladega 500 race by a full lap over Iggy Katona's Dodge. The 3rd place Ford was 12 laps down :D .

Aerodynamic enough (even with that RR hood) to win the race by a full lap and 12 laps over the nearest Ford product.

Couldn't help but notice the tire changer's knees and the amount of fluid on the ground in that great shot!
    Times certainly have changed...!
Knee pads and environmental contamination prevention among others.
Wonder how Ford spun the 12 lap thing?:D

Another Iggy short track win for Dodge - this one in 1966.

Article is from NSSN. No credit is given to the reporter but he definitely had a talent for amusing writing.

This is the car Ramo drove when the C-P dealer where I worked in '64 sponsored him. Our sister Dodge dealership sponsored Ernie Derr. Our local 1/2 mile dirt track was a IMCA stop for several years.

I'm guessing that Ramo visited your shop the Monday after this race @ Iowa in 1971;).

In 1974, Iggy Katona won his 3rd ARCA Daytona race driving an ex-Buddy Baker driven (formerly a K&K Insurance Nascar Dodge) #71. The car was wrenched by Harry Hyde for it's new owner who, according to this article, paid $20,000 for it.

All the K&K Dodges were old Nichels cars, including the one that Bonnett won with in 1977 at Ontario.

Photo (shared from Pinterest) of the Dodge Magnum that Kyle Petty drove to victory in the 1979 ARCA 200 @ Daytona. It was the first stock car victory for Kyle Petty, in fact, it was his first start in a major race series. The ARCA historical site says that the car was a former Richard Petty Nascar racer that had been "mothballed".
