Best thing is, if you have a GEN V Viper you take it to Prefix and they will build you a Viper Targa or a Medusa...

...and because they are a certified FCA US backed company, it won't void your warranty either.

It's still comparing apples to potatoes. No matter how close a shop or third party outfitter works with an OEM, they are not held to the same internal or external standards as an OEM. The AEV conversion kit to make a pick up Wrangler is another example. It can be done and done very well, but it ain't the same as rolling them off the production line. I believe understanding that difference is the first step in really getting to understand how vehicles are manufactured. If someone can't grasp that concept, then they really don't have enough basic understanding to have an in depth conversation. That's what Bob S. gave me my beating for.:)

Those Prefix Vipers are beautiful, no question. I wouldn't doubt they are rock solid much like the AEV Jeeps are. It's just FCA did the heavy lifting and let the third party skirt the regulations (because they are not full fledged OEM's) for those niche vehicles.

    Plus what's the markup?;)

    Thank you!

AEV put the Hemi into the Wrangler. FCA could not because it compromised crash safety standards. It is a great example.

Does Prefix (or AEV) crash test their conversions? (Partial curious, but I feel a bit argumentative today. Too much rain.:p)

    AEV states....

"Our suspensions are tuned on a professional

    proving ground by professional

    dynamics engineers, while other products

are put through rigorous test procedures,

    from durability shakers and

salt spray booths, to wheel impact and

    crash tests."

I thikn the Challenger / Demon has taken over as that role of Flagship models; even if not everyone will see a Demon, they will have certainly heard of it.

From the AEV Hemi Builder's Kit:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS KIT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED TO COMPLY WITH FMVSS STANDARDS AND MUST NOT BE INSTALLED IN ANY NEW VEHICLE PRIOR TO DELIVERY TO THE END USER. WHILE ALL CORRECT EMMISSIONS EQUIPMENT IS DESIGNED TO BE INSTALLED WITH THIS KIT, THIS KIT MAY STILL NOT BE LEGAL FOR ON-ROAD USE IN ALL STATES OR COUNTRIES AND AS SUCH IS CURRENTLY INTENDED FOR OFF-ROAD USE ONLY. IT IS THE USERS RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPY WITH ALL REGULATIONS.

And backs up why the third gen Hemi can’t be magically installed in the Viper.

Nothing is till you figure out how to do it. Chrysler made K car convertables for a few dollars more. This worked till the convertables were built from unobtainium. Also produced the largest line of turbo cars, possibly in the world.

At some point, the cost of combining two things you already have exceeds the cost of just making a new, third thing from scratch...
