    Hi Folks;
    I'm trying to document the replacement of a convertible top on my '85 T&C vert. I'll be updating, I hope.

    Man, that's nice of you to do a write-up and post pics. Looks like you've got it under control. I've never owned a convertible, but I'm sure this will help someone else, so thanks for all of us.

    Thanks chuzz. I'm working on putting the new top on it, and it's tough for me. I can't get the wrinkles out of the rear quarter panels. I did not pay enough attention to the position of the rear quarter panel pads. I'll be posting that also, along with success or failure. lol

    Wow, that is an excellent report and great pics thanks mjg0711.
    I have a couple of instruction books on replacing the tops but they are generic to 60's - 80's cars.
    Your thread is very specific and very detailed. Your photos explain perfectly -KEEP THEM COMING PLEASE!!! Thank you Sir!

    Hi Gary; Thanks for the compliment and encouragement. I should buy a generic book on convertible top replacement. I'm having trouble with getting the rear quarter panels correct and wrinkle free. Also, I'm having trouble getting the new half top to align and tension correctly with the old rear window. I'll be sending pics.

    Now, my other post.
    I am farther along in my process. I've started to put the new half top on the car. And it looks all wrinkly.:( So, I am looking for more expert help. And I found a friend of a friend of a friend. His name is Shawn Pumphrey. He's the owner of Northwest Auto Interiors here in Portland Oregon. http://www.yelp.com/biz/northwest-auto-interiors-portland I called him (on a Sunday. He was at his shop.) I told him I wanted the experience of putting on a convertible top, and would he mind looking at my car. Most shop owners will not another person's mistakes. But Shawn asked to see the car so he could advise me how to finesse my job. What a great Guy! And such good advice! Thank you Shawn. I will go back to him again as I follow his advice. Of course, I pay him for his time. That's only fair. But he really Likes working with uphostery, and he Likes talking about his work. THAT'S the person I enjoy working with. He is not paying me to say this. LOL:) But if you are in the area, and want someone to look at your top, let me know, and I'll give you his contact info.
    1) first thing he said: Chrysler K-cars convertible tops are one of the tough ones. K-car convertibles were custom built, and low production. So, They didn't "streamline" the building process.
    2) 2nd thing he said: I'm on the correct route, but I want to follow a slightly different sequence of steps than what is recommended in print. More on that later......

    Having owned several convertibles, I will say I congratulate you for taking on this job.
    I never did anything other than swap the rear curtain (two 1994 LeBarons) after the rear windows was broken and that was enough for me.
    I did replace the soft top on my Jeep Wrangler - much easier than the process you have for your car.
    I do need a new top on my Dakota convertible - I suspect it will be easier than your car as well. Or I may sell it instead.
    Good luck and thanks for sharing the process with us.

    I did this on my 66 Sport Fury and it was tough job. Needed someone with a little experience to show me the tricks. Nice write up and pic coverage BTW.

    Thank you stroudtom and valiant67. So, it's 94 degrees F. here in Portland, Oregon today. :eek:The perfect day to put the car in the sun, let it heat the top, and stretch the front header, mark it, then glue and staple the front edge. :cool: Pics coming......

    OK, that completes the top removal. Now, the hard part. This is the scarey part also, because I'm going to put staples into my brand new top, and I had better not screw up! :eek:
