Mid-engine Chevy Corvette and next ZR1 spied testing together
Heard that mid engine will be BIG $$$$$$.
Decades in the making, that Mid-engine Vette .
???? I'm still puzzled, they're thinking of marketing two totally different sports cars, under the same name ????
Honestly, I hate to be some fanatic die-hard purist, but the Vette has always been front engine rear drive, it may alienate more folks to change that even if it does perform better.
But, will people buy some new exotic from Chevy?
I don't know, I guess maybe, it does make sense to have a new exotic mid-engine sports car and market it as a "Special Edition" Vette.
Or is the ZR1 next years model, and the mid-engine is 5 years down the road? And we're back to alienating buyers with the mid-engine.
Have they solved the quality issues with the Vette's? I've seen some things a few years ago about buyers being miffed, with quality they got after spending so much for the vehicle. Many engines eating themselves up with oil starvation, with GM recommending owners bring the Vette's in to have the dealership check the oil level was exactly where it should be, to much or too little in the sump of a dry sump system was causing oil starvation? Yet it turned out, the blocks weren't cleaned well enough to get all the machining fragments out of the oil journals and resulted in clogged oil journals from debri left in the blocks.
There is talk about the ME debut under the Cadillac name and then moving over to be a vette option. Depending on looks/performance, this is my next car. Like 7250 others I was shot down for the ford GT.
Perhaps they will follow Jeep and Dodge.
Corvette and Grand Corvette.
They can simply call it The Chevy Zora
Some are talking that the mid engine will be a caddy. We'll see i guess, I may be interested in the car once it's unveiled.
Has anyone named a sports car, "RAPTOR" yet?
I seen a yellow ZR1 broke down on I-94 on Saturday lol...
This mid-engine Vette that GM is working on is the C8.
The mid engine Vette is a part of Corvette lore. Several times they have been to the altar, and then cancelled the project before production.
I don't see them ending the Corvette as it is now. Nothing changes other than normal Corvette evolution.
From what I have heard, the mid engine Vette is in addition to the current line up. It is to be an over the top world beater, virtually no expense spared. Think Porsche 918 fighter.
The ZR1 has been running around in two forms. One very all out ACR fighter. And one similar, but not as unforgiving. The all out version was supposedly commissioned the same day that Motor Trend ran a DODGE VIPER ACR EXTREME at the National Corvette Museum track at the Corvette factory where Corvettes are made and SOUNDLY TROUNCED all Corvettes. Viper kicked Corvette right back to the porch.
So, with a DODGE owning the track record at Corvette's home track, the Vette folks got up in arms. They wouldn't stand for this, so they decided to build a car that could beat VIPER.
Some say, what idiots? Why let a Viper run at the Vette track?
I think that a very sneaky marketing wonk talked to Motor Trend and said, "sure, and make sure to bring a Viper ACR, and make sure to set the record with it. The brass keeps nixing the engineering team's super Vette idea, and this would be all we need to get it approved."
Long story short. The ME Vette has been in the works for a long time. Longer than the Super Vette, but Super Vette was born to beat the ACR at its own game.
Supposedly they are taking a page from SRT, and this has been developed alongside the Pratt & Miller corvette Racing effort in IMSA.
I'm sorry, have been trying to like this styling, way too edgy and cartoonist, Ill keep my 04 Corvette C5
I'll believe the mid-engine when it's produced. A mid-engine 'vette has been "coming" for decades.
At the end of the day, it's still a 'vette and interests me in no way.
