Distributor cap/ rotor

    The 2002 Dakota would have crankshaft triggered spark. As long as the spark can jump from the rotor to the cap terminal, the spark timing won't change from distributor position.
    Distributor position (the cam sensor) will affect fuel injector timing called fuel 'sync'. It isn't as critical, but will affect running if grossly out of time.
