June 24, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - Dodge has made history with its performance in the 2020 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS).

Dodge tied for the top spot among 31 competitors, becoming the first domestic brand ever to achieve a No. 1 ranking in the prestigious study’s 34-year run. FCA's performance brand leaped seven places from last year’s IQS results.

Can anyone inside the dealer network add anything? IQS is very dependent on pre-delivery processes and education. Has FCA been investing in this area?

    Press release here:
2020 Initial Quality Study (IQS) (at https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2020-initial-quality-study-iqs )

As ever, some of the rankings are statistically nonsense: Kia and Dodge are deserving of first, but everything from "average" to just above Mercedes-Benz is effectively at the same level.

Actually, reading the accompanying news reports, survey was between February and May. Maybe people used their lockdown time to just read the manual...

Tesla really deserved it. Everyone else is docked for infotainment, AC and cabin controls. Tesla's defects are paintwork, panel misalignment and closures..

To answer KrisW, the store I work at has invested in a Delivery Specialist, he is a total car geek and tech-head so he's perfect for the job. He spends as much time as necessary going through vehicle features, pairing phones, using the infotainment systems, etc. In addition to following up with new car customers, making sure all is good, he makes himself available to service customers that may have issues as well. When we did the Customer First inspections last month, he was called out in the final report as a great asset to the company! Not sure how many other stores have a similar person, it has worked out amazingly well for us.

It's interesting that Chrysler lags so far behind Dodge, Ram, and Jeep. Since the 300 shares a platform and a plant with the Charger and Challenger, it makes me suspect that the Pacifica is the reason. If it weren't for quality rankings, it seem likely Pacifica would own the minivan segment.

A huge plus-one there. Also, of course, 300 sales are much lower than Pacifica/Voyager.

Not to take away from dodge but I would hope they would be at the top for initial quality if nothing major has changed in half a decade in terms of chassis/build points

Sadly, Chrysler 300 isn't getting the engineering and investment love Dodge is getting.

I am waiting for posts about how JD Powers' methodology makes such results meaningless.

I've made these posts every year no matter who wins it. 90 days measures inspection and hands-free hookups as much as anything else. That's why Mercedes used to do well on 90 day and bomb three-year.

That said, I would absolutely love it if this turned out to be 'for real' and Dodge stayed at the top of the chart through the 15-month and 3-year.

I made that point already. This one is unusual because the top brands are just about significantly better than the next group, but there's no real difference between most of the lower half of the table.

I’m happy for Dodge, though it helps that they haven’t had a new model in 6 years. That matters a lot since you don’t have to work out as many kinks on all new models.

Something tells me the people at FCA are probably just as surprised as we are. :p
