So today John McElroy reported on Autoline Daily that when the Dodge Grand Caravan ends production in 2019 it will be replaced by a Dodge version of the Pacifica and will be called the Atlantis. I don't get it. If FCA is so gung-ho on brand identity with Dodge being the "performance" brand and Chrysler being the "mainstream people-mover" brand why would they give Dodge a new minivan? Minivans are hardly known for their performance attributes.

If Dodge can have a people-mover why can't Chrysler have a performance car?

Doubtful. Atlantis could be a name for the Chrysler CUV (version of K-8)? Doubt they would use it for Dodge. It wouldn’t make sense to give Dodge another minivan at this point...unless it’s a Hellcat minivan (now that’s a minivan I’d consider! :D). Lol.

I think this person has no idea what they’re talking about and is confusing rumors that have been talked about already.

I'm with you on this one. This is a rumor that doesn't make any sense, and doesn't match anything our insiders here have been telling us.

That being said, I waiting for someone to grab on to this and turn it into another Allpar freak out. I've got my popcorn standing by. :D

Both Journey and Durango wagons are 'people movers'. They aren't Rams.

Chrysler Atlantis would be a great name for the functional replacement for the Dodge Journey IMO.

I would also love to see a new Grand Caravan, but I doubt we'll see one of those.

Yeah, me thinks he has his wires crossed. In a nutshell, the Chrysler Atlantis will be the functional replacement for the Dodge Journey...

This performance car from Chrysler would have to make a huge splash in the market. It would have to an updated hellcat engine and would need high end options, something that seems expensive. And I personally don't believe this rumor lol. Plus performance cars are all about branding. I guess you gotta ask yourself would you rather pull up in a dodge challenger or a chrysler?

I went back and listened again and the original report came from "Auto Forecast Solutions." He describes the Dodge Atlantis as being a "brother" to the Chrysler Pacifica. If interested:

Not trying to start anything. Just thought it was interesting news. I believe Mr. McElroy qualifies as an insider.

We haven’t heard about this. The only vehicles that could use this name are the Chrysler CUVs.

He did say “brother” but he also said “another van”.

I'm pretty sure if there was a Dodge companion to the Pacifica coming that one of them would have told us by now, or at the very least hinted at it.

I highly doubt Dodge would get another van but FCA has made significant changes in plans before...

It was an unnamed prototype built in Italy that fell off the ship on the way to the US.
Despite repeated searches it has never been found.
It was highly advanced and was truly revolutionary.
Donovan wrote a song about it.

How about a Dodge hot rod van? :p (The plastic in this model is more akin to the Daimler era though...lol)
