09 R/T - for sure more hp than present, I think about 385 to 390 plus 6 speed option and the starting price around $32,500. There will be no GG tax and I hope a Road and Track package like Charger has. Can't wait to see all that is coming. When is that NY show?

i thought the challenger was going along with mustang pricing? even though i can see the challenger being more(a given) a gt mustang starts at $26,080 deluxe and $27,680 premium. huge gap for competition, is the 3.5 aiming at gt?

Perhaps the Mustang is not the target for this full size muscle coupe.

Holy crap! Is that really the starting price for an R/T? That's only $5,000 cheaper than the SRT model. I figured that the 6-cylinders would start around $19,000, with the R/T starting around $25,000. But if the V-8 models are going to be over $30,000, then sales of the Challenger are going to nosedive very quickly. Especially if gas hits $4.00 per gallon.

Where would that put the price of the convertible models? Over $40,000? Someone please tell me that price is a mistake.

$32,500!? really?! to make it worse dealers are going to be adding to that price during intro....likely, the camaro will be priced closer to the stang.

  9. my brother bought a 03 Mustang Cobra Svt they started at $37k back in 03 look at the price of the
08 cobra $47,120 he asking price of the new challenger Srt-8 isn't to shabby! (for under $40K)

I think $32,500 is a great price for this car! We will know more when we finally see the R/T. As I have written before, this is not a pony car and the Mustang comparison is like comparing full size to compact.

the price is probably right...the new 5.7 will be in the challenger and will probably be making about 40hp less than the SRT and wont have the gas guzzler tax either from what i've gathered on this board.

I'll pay that as soon as Plum Crazy/In-Violet is available. I just love the grille & headlamp eyebrow detail.
The front end of the Challenger looks way tougher than a 'stang or camaro. Also, this car doesn't look nearly
as fat/heavy on the road as they looked in the early pics. The R/T i saw on Squirrel Rd. last week looked great from
from any angle. Major kudos to the design team.

Pricing for the R/T (and other 09 models) has not yet been announced -- it will probably be announced at the NYIAS. Any guesses between now and then are just guesses.

These are guesses, but I am willing to bet they are real close. The R/T seems to be a good buy if these prices are close.

It's only fitting to have a $639 fuel door if you'll be pumping in $4 gas, anything less would just be disrespectful and show no class. Probably will need an anti theft device just for the fuel door. Now where did I put my $300 hammer? But like most of you, I can't wait to buy mine, not the fuel door, the whole car.

I know with the rumor that the 2009 5.7 R/T will have VCT and 380 hp, many are now reconsidering buying the 6.1 SRT. (The SRT is also more expensive, has the $2,100 gas guzzler tax, and may be more to insure).

    So, I was just wondering...

How much slower will the 5.7 be in the 1/4 mile?

Using an on-line drag race calculator, I came up with these approximations:

    6.1 SRT= 12.45 sec. @ 109.47 mph

    5.7 R/T= 12.90 sec. [at]105.40 mph

A difference of .5 sec. and 4 mph

Question- Does this sway any one on the fence who was thinking of buying the SRT in 2009?

I also discovered that the calipers for it are $422 for the front and $467 for the rear (per side).

Interesting... seems like dodge is competing with themselves...

Have you punched in any numbers and compared them to actual real-world test drive data? How accurate is that?
